The article posted by Tal Kopan outlines some of the new struggles that undocumented immigrants have to face now and days. A 17 year old undocumented immigrant girl was not allowed to get an abortion due to the Trump administration denying her access. "...get an abortion after the Trump administration denied her access to one (Kopan 1)". The author used a formal diction to explain the decision made by judge Tanya Chutkan. The minor is "to be transported by a guardian or attorney to an abortion provider to obtain state-mandated counseling and then to obtain the abortion (Kopan 2)". This scandal comes after officials wouldn't give the minor the transportation to the abortion. This after having parental consent and necessary funding. "While the teen had judicial permission, in the place of parental consent, and the funds to the get the abortion, the ACLU said, officials refused to transport her for the procedure or allow anyone else to do so ( Kopan 6)". The tone the author uses is somewhat of alarming. This because of the uncooperative behavior of the detention officials. The judge has also said "that if the administration failed to comply with the order, officials could be found in contempt of court (Kaplan 12)". The purpose of this article is to outline the struggles that some undocumented immigrants can face in a time when they are in need. This 17 year old is a modern example of struggles these undocumented immigrants can face.

By Vasco Cotovio, Isa Soares, and Hilary Clark: Sunday October 1, 2017 In this article written by Vasco Cotovio Isa Soares and Hilary Clarke is published in a time of tension in the nation of Spain. One of the most important states of Spain Catalonia is trying to declare its own independence once again but this time through an illegal vote they call a "referendum". The results are shocking as the "Spanish national police launched a wide spread crackdown on Catalonia's disputed referendum" (Cotovio 1). Images show the national police breaking in to the many voting polls that were set up. The articles is set up for readers that are interested in other countries political disputes. Its clear that throughout the article the author shows a very formal diction, "In scenes that reverberated around Spain, riot police smashed their way into some polling locations and beat back voters with batons as they attempted to take part in the referendum. Hundreds of injuries were reported" (Cotovio 2). The authors of this piece make a formal diction to emphasize the importance that this has to do with Spain. This matter is urgent now that Catalonia is one of the states that brings the most income to Spain not to mention the world famous Football (Soccer) Club FC Barcelona which played their match behind closed doors in support of the Madrid government, "FC Barcelona said a match against a rival that supports the Madrid government would be played behind closed doors" (Cotovio 11). The authors appeal to logos as they state accurate information about the events to get the real story out there, "The Spanish Interior Ministry said authorities closed 92 of about 2,300 polling stations" (Cotovio 15). The intentional purpose of these authors was to get the story of Spain out there because its very important that the world knows that Spain might be getting smaller. They do this by using a formal diction along with many appeals to logos to state facts and events with real numbers to describe the situation present in Catalonia, Spain. Definitely moments of tension the government in Spain is facing.
